Fred Thompson Might as Well Quit Now

Fred Thompson’s candidacy has been a complete disaster since the day he organized his exploratory committee.   He took forever to get into the race, skipped the NH debate, referred to Russia as the Soviet Union, wasn’t up on some relative recent events (Elian Gonzalez and Terri Schiavo), told a bunch of church goers in the South he doesn’t attend Church when at home in Virginia, asks for applause, disappears from the campaign trail, and so on and so forth.   But his most recent gaffe could be the death knell.

In an interview with Cam Cameron, Fred jokingly said, “The next president of the United States has a schedule to keep and so do I.”   Granted, it was joking, however it is yet another sign that he is not really taking his candidacy all that seriously and really doesn’t believe he has any better chance to win the Presidency than Chris Dodd.  Behind every joke is a shred of truth.  And while this would usually be a relative small thing for most candidates, for Thompson, who was already being criticized for his many mistakes, this is one that he will likely not be able to recover from.

  2. I just don’t get it. Thompson’s supporters are twice as excited about his campaign as he is. I really don’t think he has any clue as to how to run a national campaign. It seems like his inflated poll numbers were just because his reputation had swelled to mythic proportions before he declared his candidacy. If he had been energetic and driven about 2-3 months ago, declared his candidacy, and beat the bushes, we’d be looking at him as a frontrunner. But it’s almost as if he has flushed his good poll numbers down the toilet.

  3. Oh, I hope that he doesn’t quit. He is an endless source of jokes, and well, his wife is, ahem, “easy on the eyes”. 🙂

Ok, ok, I probably miss him more on the Law and Order shows, so I suppose it is ok that he drops.

“his wife is, ahem, ‘easy on the eyes'”

    Neither is Kucinich’s.

  5. And he’s a member of the CFR. All the people on that council are traitors to this nation.
